Holiday Inspiration

I love the simple wreath with a burlap bow that I have on my front door and thought how lovely it would look on a holiday card. That was my inspiration for today's project.

I used the Passage Door die to create a folded card from Kraft cardstock. Then I cut another door from Kraft-Core cardstock, distressed with sandpaper, added a door knob and attached it to the front of the card. For the wreath I used the Festive Greenery die to cut some pine branches from Kraft-Core cardstock, distressed with sandpaper, attached branches to a circle base, added glitter for snow and topped it of with a bow. Love that little bit of sparkle!

For the inside I stamped a sentiment from the Mini Handwritten Holidays set on a piece of patterned paper and attached it to the card. Oh what fun!

I'm entering this in the Holiday Cards Challenge over at Simon Says Stamp. Check out the Monday Challenge Blog for all the details and some amazing art by the design team. Thanks for stopping by!

Cabinet Card Pocket

Today's project was made for the Compendium of Curiosities 3 Challenge. For Challenge 15 we are using the cabinet card pocket technique on page 38 of Tim's latest book. Hop over to Studio L3, Linda Ledbetter's blog, for all the details. Inspiration Emporium is sponsoring this challenge with a $50 gift certificate for one lucky entry.

I'm a fan of the Cabinet Card Frames so this challenge was right up my alley. I started with a photo from the newest Found Relatives pack. Once I had my photo in place I added a few embellishments. For the gifts under the tree I adhered patterned paper to chipboard and used the Packages & Bows Die. To dress up each package I used a variety of products in my stash. For the little red package I used Kraft-Core Cardstock, the Assembly Snowman Die, Glossy Accents and Distress Glitter for the topper. Once they were all decorated I adhered them to the card. Thanks for stopping by!

Colored Crackle

Welcome! For today's project I used the colored crackle technique on page 53 in the latest book by Tim Holtz, A Compendium of Curiosities Volume 3. I die cut the window from chipboard and then followed Tim's technique. For the view outside of the window I stamped the pine tree, an older woodblock stamp, on a scrap piece of manila cardstock and added a few snowflake remnant rubs. Next I adhered a little patterned paper, embossed brick and the window to a cabinet card. One holiday card down, a dozen or so to go. Thanks for stopping by!

I'm entering this project in the following challenges:
Good 'ol days over at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog.
Happy Holidays over at Inspiration Emporium.

Worn Cover

When was the last time you did something for the first time? Today's post is all about firsts for me. I used a worn cover, muslin, phoomph and coffee for the first time on a project. Now I know what your thinking, where's the coffee? I'll reveal that later in my post.

Before starting my project I checked out Tim's worn cover technique on page 35 of his latest book. I decided that I wanted to add some snowflakes to the cover but did not have a stencil. I made my own with the snowflake from the Winter Wonder Die and added a few to the cover with distress paint. Once the snowflakes were dry I adhered a little distress glitter to each one with glossy accents. For the snowman I used bleached white muslin that I dyed with coffee to tone down the white. Once the muslin dried I attached a piece to phoomph and die cut the snowman's body. Next I cut a few smaller pieces of muslin and colored them with distress stains. Once they dried I attached each piece to double-sided adhesive and die cut the other parts of the snowman with the exception of the scarf. For that, I attached a piece of jute to double-sided adhesive and die cut the scarf. I then adhered the snowman to the cover and secured my ring binder with linen ribbon.

I'm entering this project over at Inspiration Emporium for their October challenge "In Disguise" and at Studio L3 for Linda Ledbetter's Compendium of Curiosities 3, Challenge 13. Inspiration Emporium is also sponsoring the challenge for CC3 with a $50 gift certificate. Thanks for stopping by!

#CC3C - Distress Photo Tinting

So here we are at Challenge 12, check out Linda Ledbetter's blog for all the details. The Funkie Junkie Boutique is back to sponsor this challenge with a $25 shopping spree for one lucky CC3Cer!

The technique for this challenge is Distress Photo Tinting, page 41 in Tim's latest book. I used one of the Found Relatives photos for the technique, minus the gentleman's head, hehehe. Next I stamped the skull from the Mini Halloween 3 set on distress watercolor cardstock and acetate. I then colored the watercolor image with distress ink. Once it was dry I cut out the images and adhered the acetate to the watercolor piece. I framed this spooky fella in a Cabinet Card that was painted with distress paint and misted with distress spray stain. Thanks for stopping by!

Tim is such a good teacher so I just followed his steps and I have never had so much fun with alcohol inks. #CC3C - Effect Powders

I'm getting this post in at the last minute for the Compendium of Curiosities 3, Challenge 11. All the details are on the lovely Linda Ledbetter's blog and this challenge is being sponsored by Inspiration Emporium.

It's officially Fall and the trees are full of color here in Minnesota. For this challenge I decided that I wanted to make a window card. This is a series of cards that I've created that include a cabinet card frame as the base, corrugated cardstock and a window. I started by die cutting the window from chipboard and then followed the technique instructions on page 52 of Tim's book. Next I cut a bunch of mini branches from kraft-core cardstock and used them to form a wreath. The leaves were cut from manila cardstock then colored with distress inks. Lastly I embossed the edges of the leaves with vintage photo and adhered them to the wreath. Thanks for stopping by!

#CC3C - Assemblage Clock

Boy that 2 weeks went by fast! I just finished my entry for Challenge 10, hop over to Linda Ledbetter's blog for all the details. The Funkie Junkie Boutique is sponsoring this challenge with a $25 shopping spree for one lucky CC3Cer!

First thing I did was turn to page 33 of my copy of A Compendium of Curiosities Volume 3 to check out Tim's technique. Once I had my background created I applied Mushroom Alcohol Ink to the entire clock. Next I die-cut the headstone from Grungeboard using one of the Artful Dwellings Dies and then applied a coat of Brushed Pewter Distress Crackle Paint. When it was dry I added a bit of aging with Distress Stain and Paint. I used a Industrious Sticker to frame a picture of a elderly gentleman from the Laboratorie Paper Stash and added the date of his untimely death using Remnant Rubs. For the leaves I die-cut a couple dozen from Kraft Glassine and folded them to create the veins. I took a picture of my finished clock without the glass but then reinstalled it so the leaves can move around freely inside, I guess you could call it a shaker clock! Thanks for stopping by!

Today's post is for the Compendium of Curiosities 3 Challenge. Check out the lovely Linda Ledbetter's blog for all the details. The sponsor for Challenge #9 is Inspiration Emporium. One lucky entry will receive a $50 gift certificate for their store.

I began by checking out Tim's technique on page 63 of his book. I only have one of his cling rubber stamp sets with matching Framelits dies. Following Tim's technique I completed the tree and added some ornaments that I applied Remnant Rubs to. At this point I decided to create a window card. This is a series of cards that I've created using a Cabinet Card Frame as the base, corrugated cardstock and a die cut window. So here is my first Christmas card of the year. The faded layers technique is on page 58 of Tim's book, A Compendium of Curiosities Volume 3. This is a new technique for me. I started by experimenting with a variety of colors on numerous pieces of cardstock. Once I decided what I was going to create I used Tim's technique on the background. #CC3C - Painted Industrial

It's time for another Compendium of Curiosities 3 challenge! Check out the lovely Linda Ledbetter's blog for all the details and to see what the Curiosity Crew created. Inspiration Emporium is sponsoring Challenge #7 with a $50 gift certificate!

The painted industrial technique is on page 46 of Tim's book. For this technique and the focal point of my project I used one of my newest dies, the Layered Dragonfly. Next I decided to die cut and emboss a second dragonfly from modeling film. I colored this one with a variety of archival ink and heated it. To finish the look I adhered it to the top of my foil dragonfly and I gotta say I love the effect. Thanks for stopping by!

I started by turning to page 39 of Tim's book, A Compendium of Curiosities Volume 3. Next I pulled out some Mini Blueprint stamps and used Tim's technique to color several images. For the card below I used the largest of the Sized Rectangles Dies to create the card base from Kraft Cardstock. I used the largest and smallest die to create the frame from recycled cardboard. Pulled it all together and there your have it, my finished card is 2 3/4 x 3 3/4 inches. Thanks for stopping by!

Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2014 - June

Love Tim's tag for June, the man is so creative! I really liked the monoprint technique that he used to create the colorful watercolor background. That's where my journey began.

I knew that I wanted to use the sea horse image from the Nautical Blueprint set on my tag. With that in mind I chose 5 colors of Distress Ink and the Dot Fade Layering Stencil to create the background. I finally pulled it all together this past weekend with the bow. Thanks for stopping by!

#CC3C - Layering Stencil: Texture Paste Technique

For Challenge #4, see Linda Ledbetter's blog for all the details, I knew that I wanted to use a new stamp set that I got recently called Nautical Blueprint. I purchased it from The Funkie Junkie Boutique, they are sponsoring this challenge with a $25 gift certificate. This was my second order from Linda Coughlin, the owner, great prices and awesome customer service.

So on to my project for this challenge. I did a search on the internet for pictures of starfish and found a really cool looking one. I stamped the image from the Nautical Blueprint set onto Distress Watercolor Cardstock and then cut it out. Next I placed my Crocodile Layering Stencil on the image and used Tim's technique on page 49 of his book. I love how the starfish turned out! To showcase it I put it on a Mini Burlap Panel that I covered with Tissue Wrap and Distress Paint. Thanks for stopping by!

#CC3C - Faux Tea Rose Technique

Lots of things going on this week and I have a wedding shower this weekend. So I thought Challenge #3, see Linda Ledbetter's blog for all the details, was the perfect opportunity to create a gift card. Inspiration Emporium is sponsoring this challenge with a $50 Gift Certificate!

I began by turning to page 65 of Tim's awesome book, A Compendium of Curiosities Volume 3. Luckily I had the die for this technique! Once I had my rose made I pulled out a Cabinet Card Frame, sanded the edges and covered it with Remnant Rubs. The picture of the happy couple is a Found Relative Card. Thanks for stopping by!

For this challenge I decided to make a card. I got Tim's book, turned to page 43, chose a variety of distress paint and got creative. Thanks for stopping by!
